How to Play Baccarat

Baccarat is one of the simplest games in the casino, yet many gamblers shy away from it. That is a shame, because it is also one of the games with the lowest house edge. This means that many players would benefit from trying it out when playing at the casino.

Baccarat can be traced to 15th century Italy, where it was known as “baccara.” It moved to France, where they added the “t” to the end. The game flourished there, and the French nobility made it one of the most popular games at French casinos.

These days baccarat can be found in casinos throughout the world. It is still much more popular in European casinos than American casinos, but it is also popular among gamblers in Asian casinos.

Betting on Baccarat

Players can make one of three bets at a baccarat table.

They can bet on the bank to win.

They can bet on the player to win.

They can bet on a tie.

Those are the only three outcomes, which makes it one of the simplest games available for casino players.

The winning hand iswill be the one which is closer to a total of nine. If the bank and player are both dealt hands with the same score, then it is a tie.

The game starts with players making their bets on the player, bank or tie. Then two cards are dealt to player and the banker.

Every ten and face card has a value of zero. The aces have a value of one. Every other card from 2-9 has its face value.

The two cards are added up, and if the player has a total less than 6 or more than 9, then the player receives one more card. Three is the maximum number of cards the player can be dealt. If the player receives a third card, then the player’s score will be the total of the second two cards in the hand.

The banker’s rules are a little more complex. The banker always receives a third card if the first two cards total 0-2. If the banker’s first two cards total 3, then he always hits unless the player’s third card is an 8.

If the banker’s first two cards total 4, then he always hits when the players third card is a 2,3,4,5,6 or 7. If the banker’s first two cards total 5, then he always hits if the player’s third card is a 4, 5, 6 or 7. If the banker’s first two cards total 6, then he only hits when the player’s last card is a 6 or 7.

The banker and player both always stand if their first two cards total 8 or 9.

How to Bet on Baccarat

A bet on the banker has the lowest house edge, and it pays off at even money, minus a 5% commission for the house. The player bet has a higher house edge, but it pays off at even money. The tie bet has a huge house edge, but it does pay off at 8 to 1.
